The Mangrove Research
In collaboration with Fundación “La Caixa”
The mangrove research project was initiated by Sónia Vaz Borges and Filipa César, in dialogue with Sana na N’Hada, the Malafo community and the Guinean scientists Rui Nene N’djata (agronomist, water and soil engineer) and Marcelino Mutna (chemist). The mangrove research project is based on the living conditions of the students and teachers who established jungle schools in Guinea’s mangroves during the liberation struggle in order to develop collective and epistemological reflections on mangrove botany, its traditional uses and traditional understanding, and possibly about it to help reestablish the essential links between man and nature that have been broken. Vaz Borges’ academic research on the educational system developed during the liberation process and mangrove botany as a natural technology of connection, protection and resistance.
