Stretching dry animal skin over the edge of a gourd, a hollow trunk or around a box to create a resonant body is a gesture that cuts across almost every culture in the world. Music is one of the most timeless ways of passing on memories, both ancestral and current, allowing for sharing and transference. The same music can be expressed through various musical instruments, which are also another of the various languages that make up humanity, each instrument with its own grammars and limitations, but which when in symphony and synchrony, create harmony. The construction of musical instruments, which enhance this space of harmony, also contains memories and stories and was explored in this workshop, creating palimpsests. Eight musicians and craftsmen lived together with people of various ages for three days, to create musical instruments, from various traditions, and explore the sound memories, with the aim of putting them in conversation, to create new traditions and spaces of resonance.
