Seminar "Time(s) of Contemporaneity 2: Decolonizing the Future"
With Dora García, Emanuel Lopes (Cadjigue), Filipa César, Françoise Vergès, Kader Attia and Marinho de Pina.
Organised by the Colectivos Pláka and Oporto City Hall
The tutor Claire Bishop and Nuno Crespo curated the seminar “The Time (s) of Contemporaneity 2: Decolonizing the Future” to bring together artists and intellectuals to debate the relationship between art, ethnicity, institutions, and the legacy of colonialism. Decolonisation was approached in the broadest sense: from recognition of colonial legacies today to an existing system of repression and to a practice that affirms different forms of repressed knowledge. Guest speakers explored decolonial methodologies in museums and galleries, ways of critically interacting with the colonial past, and how Third World feminisms used revolutionary socialism.
